What “alterations” covers, exactly

Alteration is the broadest word in tailoring, and the easiest to get wrong by guessing instead of measuring. In practice, almost every alteration we do falls into one of a few categories — and most are faster and less expensive than people expect.

  • Hemming — trousers, skirts, dresses, sleeves, shortened or lengthened
  • Taking in or letting out waists, side seams and darts
  • Suit and blazer tapering — sleeves, waist suppression, trouser break
  • Strap shortening and bodice adjustment on dresses
  • Re-cuffing sleeves and trouser legs
  • Zipper, button and snap replacement as part of a fitting
Common questions

Alterations & Fitting

It depends on the garment and fabric, so we always confirm a clear price before starting — no surprises at collection. Send a photo on WhatsApp for a fast estimate.
Yes, within the seam allowance built into the garment. We’ll tell you honestly how much room there is to work with before we start cutting into anything.
Yes — brand and origin don’t matter to us, fit does. We alter clothing from local shops, imported pieces and online orders alike.
Most jobs need one fitting and one collection visit. More involved tapering, or anything for a wedding, sometimes needs a second check fitting — we’ll say so upfront if that applies to you.
